CO-ACTIVE® TRAINING INSTITUTE

Let's create a new language of leadership, together!

For the last 30 years the Co-Active Training Institute (CTI) has been offering the gold-standard in coach training and leadership development for individuals and organizations. Now we are creating a new language of leadership. Let's do this together.

Equity, Diversity & Inclusion

CTI is driven by our commitment to empowering people to express their wholeness and unique abilities. That commitment extends to diversity, equity, accessibility, and inclusion for all program participants. We strive to provide partnership that makes you feel fully supported on your leadership journey.

Equity, Diversity & Inclusion Updates

As we learn more about our culture and evolve toward a company that better serves everyone, we want to keep you in-the-loop. Here you will find key updates about what we’ve learned, what we are doing and the general progress we are making on this front.

For those who attended the community call last week, we wish to convey our profound gratitude for your presence and thoughtful engagement. This is truly the beginning of a commitment to being in dialogue with our community as important stakeholders in the conversation around how we shape our organization and industry to be more equitable and inclusive.

In the spirit of transparency and accountability, we have created the summary of the call below, along with an overview of next steps that CTI is committed to.

Co-Active, in many ways, is about relationship and responsibility. It is about recovering to our innate wisdom, which helps us remember who we are, and ultimately, gives us a pathway towards something more creative and whole for our lives. The journey with equity, inclusion, diversity, and wholeness at CTI has been a process of remembering ourselves and our responsibility as an organization.

Dear CTI Community,

This message is in response to the International Coaching Federation (ICF) decision to host its 2023 Converge conference in Florida. The circumstance and the choices surrounding the location matter to CTI because of our desire as an organization to be accountable, to stay aligned with our commitments to equity, inclusion, and diversity (EID), and to be responsible with our span of influence to this community and the coaching industry at large.

Co-Active defines leaders as those who take responsibility for their world. In this way, responsibility has two parts: the ability to create your world and the ability to be shaped and created by your world.

Our level of responsibility is commensurate with our awareness of these two parts. We hold that the practice of leadership is to build the capacity to live into this paradox.

There are moments in leadership when leaders take a pause to reflect on a large amount of work that has just transpired in leading a team, community, or organization into a new future.

As leaders, you have sourced and created a vision, shared it with people, and taken bold action to get momentum moving in the desired direction. You have done some heavy lifting and are feeling well-used, tired, and inspired. There is still a lot of unknown ahead, yet you are hopeful and assured.

As we head into the end of the third quarter, we want to let you see into what CTI has been focusing on in the first half of 2021 and provide insight into how we are holding and delivering course experiences for the rest of the year. And as we all navigate this new territory of life and work, we think it is more important than ever to find ways to be in relationship. We crafted this message with that spirit in mind and hope it serves as a point of connection.

Over the past year, the Black Lives Matter movement made it clear that the leadership development and coach training industry has a lot of work to do in creating equity. As CTI continues to step into commitment and action to better account for marginalization and oppression, and to include all lived experiences, we are uplifted by our industry peers and our community in their efforts to create a new, equitable world.

To this end, we are excited to announce a partnership between CTI and Coaching For Everyone that represents just one of multiple partnerships planned for the next few years that will take our work deeper into global communities.

At the end of December we sent a message to you sharing the actions we had taken in service of equity, inclusion and diversity.  We shared about how we created decision maker alignment, engaged with anti-racism work and training and the hiring of a consultant. In case you missed it you can find it here.

We also thought you’d be interested to read a recent blog post we wrote in response to the events on January 6 at the United States Capitol. Please join us in the conversation thread found below the post.

We welcome your input, engagement, and co-leadership as we create this transformation in our company. The best way to provide us with general feedback right now is on our feedback form.

Thank you for all the ways you are on the journey with us. More to come.

Carey Baker and Carlo Bos
Co-Presidents, CTI

At the risk of this message getting lost during a very full time of year, we still want to communicate as a way of staying in a practice of accountability. Since we shared our last message (in September), one of the things we have been unlearning is our tendency toward urgency, a characteristic of dominant culture, while we maintain our commitment to taking timely action that is considered and whole. As we apply our awareness and learning in real time, things are taking a cycle or two longer than we had previously thought at any given moment. More time and broader perspective allows us  to be here now, with an update that feels grounded and whole, on all that we are learning, how that learning is informing our actions, and the things we have followed through on.

Community,

This message is a follow-up to our first communications about how CTI will be engaging with the context and work of diversity, equity and inclusion. Since our initial message on June 9, 2020, we have been slowing down to listen and learn in order to create a deeper level of awareness of where we are in this cultural transformation. As an organization that is devoted to evoking transformation, we know that this phase of awareness is necessary and something that will be ongoing, even as we enter stages of analysis and action.
